Facebook Store Sales Volume Grows 480%

Fact: Social selling works.

The combination of e-commerce and Facebook has once again proven to be an effective way to drive sales and our recent study confirms it.

In the past year ShopTab Facebook store sales growth has seen a 480% growth rate. That’s massive growth, and validates the fact that more customers are willing to make purchases through social networks.

Store sales growth 1

This is part of a much larger trend that has been sweeping across the e-commerce landscape. More people are buying online, more people are buying on mobile, and more people are buying on Facebook.

55% of all buyers do their research on social networks, and more people are turning to Facebook before making purchases. It seems natural to allow buyers to make purchases in the same environment that they are doing product research.

As of the first quarter of 2015, Facebook had 1.44 billion monthly active users. The numbers are rising and rising, and there is no sign that the growth will stop anytime soon.

72% of online adults now visit the social network at least once a month, and those adults are more comfortable spending money online.

While these factors are all external, we’ve also been pushing several new features through the ShopTab platform to help our Facebook store clients sell more effectively.

The guides we’ve written on using Facebook’s call-to-action button are also helping Facebook shop owners sell to mobile users. ShopTab is fully optimized for mobile use, and the call-to-action button is the perfect way to drive mobile Facebook viewers into your shop.

We’ll be taking a closer look at mobile sales volume in the next blog post.

How to Create a Facebook Shop in India

E-commerce in India is booming. Sales of products and services online in India has grown steadily for the past several years, and the volume is predicted to continue to rise (especially for mobile devices). According to Statista, e-commerce sales in India may reach $17.2 billion by the end of 2018.

Facebook store in India

Facebook usage in India is also on the rise. The Economic Times reports that India may have the largest number of Facebook users on mobile by 2017. Of the 112 million Facebook users in India, more than 99 million users are using accessing the site through mobile phones, and about 45 million users in India are using Facebook through their mobile phones every day.

If you’re a Facebook marketer, creating a Facebook shop is the easiest and most-effective way to sell products to this rapidly growing population of Facebook users.

We receive numerous inquiries from clients in India that desire to use their Facebook Fan Page to sell products or services to their fans.  If you’re interested in selling on Facebook, there are a number of ways to get started.

First, sign up for a free 7-day ShopTab trial. When you have your ShopTab account created you can choose

Our leading Facebook store app will allow you to:

  1. Sell using ShopTab’s Cash on Delivery (COD) option.
  2. Create a FB Storefront to products you have for sale on an e-commerce website
  3. Create a FB Storefront to products listed in a marketplace like Flipkart
  4. Integrated cart – Accepts Euro, USD or 24 other currencies on PayPal’s gateway

Let’s take a look at each option.

1. Sell using ShopTab’s COD option

ShopTab created the ability to allow buyers to signal their intent to make a purchase via an email notification with our Facebook Cash on Delivery payment option. The seller would need to finalize the purchase with the buyer through email, text or phone call.

NOTE: Set your currency to the rupee in the Settings/Store Design tab and make sure you selected URL Integration in the Settings/Buyer Checkout options.

Check out the full COD FAQ here

2. Create a Facebook shop with an existing e-commerce website

Many clients have a website where they are selling their products currently. If this is the case, ShopTab has a simple integration that allows you to use the existing website to show the full product catalog file as well as for the payment/checkout system.

NOTE: Set your currency to the rupee in the Settings/Store Design tab and make sure you selected URL Integration in the Settings/Buyer Checkout options.

Here’s the full integration FAQ

3. Create a FB Storefront for products listed in a marketplace like Flipkart

Many inquiries to ShopTab are from new online sellers or those selling inside of a popular marketplace sites like Flipkart. Using a marketplace is a great way to begin selling online since it will allow you to open up your products to all users on the internet. However, marketplaces don’t provide a great opportunity to promote and sell to your social fans. Using ShopTab with a site like Flipcart can help you to leverage both online and social selling – a great combination.

When integrating with a marketplace, the creation of products listings may be individual manual entries or a product file upload into ShopTab, if the marketplace provides a text or csv file export.

NOTE: Set your currency to the rupee in the Settings/Store Design tab and make sure you selected URL Integration in the Settings/Buyer Checkout options.

4. Integrated cart – Accepts Euro, USD or 24 other currencies on PayPal’s gateway

ShopTab uses PayPal’s gateway for processing of all debit, credit or PayPal payments. At this time PayPal does not support the INR directly but they have announced that they plan to do so. In the meantime, sellers can use the cart with any of the 26 currencies supports such as the Euro or U.S. Dollar. These funds will be converted into INR within your account after deposit.

Here’s a video that shows you how to set up your Facebook shop with PayPal.

Eventually you’ll be able to sell using integrated cart payments in Indian Rupee with PayPal’s gateway. We’ll let you know as soon as this feature rolls out.

We continue to push PayPal to support the INR but they have noted many special Indian banking regulations that seem to be holding up the process. We’ll continue to monitor this situation and make will have it immediately available on ShopTab when it is supported.

How to Promote Your Facebook Call to Action Button

One of Facebook’s most powerful selling tools is the call-to-action button that was announced a few months ago. The call-to-action button can be added to any Facebook business page, and it allows Facebook shop owners to convert fans into customers (on both desktops and mobile devices).

We’ve covered how to set up your call-to-action button and showed how the call-to-action button can drive product interest and sales in other posts.

Facebook has recently added a new capability for the call-to-action button, the ability to promote.

Once you’ve added the call-to-action button to your Facebook page, it will appear on your page’s cover photo and you’ll see the option to promote it.

promote Facebook call to action button

To promote your call to action:

  1. Go to your Page
  2. In the top right corner of your Page, click Promote
  3. Click the first option – Promote Your Call to Action
  4. Add the details for your promotion
  5. Click Promote > Confirm

Adding the details will look something like this:

You’ll be able to create a headline, add text, choose an image for the promotion, and target the promotion by location, interests, age and other demographics.

It’s important to use Facebook’s targeting options here – if you have a brick-and-mortar shop, we recommend targeting people in your geographic area.

After you’ve launched your promotion, you’ll be able to view the results in your Facebook shop performance dashboard. You’ll be able to see how many people have viewed your store, how much social activity (shares, tweets, and pins) you had, and how many buy clicks you had.

How to Set a Fixed Dollar Discount in Your Facebook Store

Facebook store promotion

We recently rolled out our Facebook store promotion code tool, and now all of our Facebook shop users are able to create customized promotion codes for their customers.

Promotion codes are great selling tools. They highlight your products, drive more sales, and help you create customer loyalty.

Creating a promotion code in your Facebook shop is simple and easy. Here are the types of promotion codes you can offer:

1. Percentage Discount

Example: Take 15% off the price of your items for a special Saturday sale

2. Fixed Amount Discount

Example: Everyone who orders $100 worth of items in your store gets $15 off their order price.

In this guide, I’m going to show you how to create Option #2: the fixed amount discount. Follow these steps and you’ll have your first fixed amount promotion code ready in no time.

1. Login to your ShopTab account and select the Promotion Codes link under the Promotion drop-down menu

2. Choose a name for your promotion code (this is what you will distribute to your customers)

You can share the code on your Facebook page or give it to a select number of your customers via email or private message.

3. Select the Fixed Discount bubble and enter the amount of the discount.

This will be the whole number that is taken off the total purchase price of the items in your customer’s cart. Don’t worry about adding a currency symbol. We’ll use the same currency you already have set up under Settings/Buyer Checkout Options.

In this case, we set up a fixed discount for $10.

4. Set a threshold for the discount

With the fixed amount discount, you can create a Threshold Option, allowing you to create a minimum purchase level before the discount is applied.

In this case, we set the threshold at $100, meaning the $10 fixed discount is only applied if the customer spends $100.

5. Click the save discount button

You’ve officially created a fixed discount!

You can now add additional codes using the “add new code” button or delete an old code with the “Delete code” button.

Interpreting Your Facebook Shop Analytics

organic reach in Facebook storeEarlier this year we announced the release of our Facebook store performance dashboard, the go-to page for all of the questions you might have about your Facebook store pages views, promotion activity, and social engagement.

The performance dashboard was designed to give you powerful insights about your store activity and help guide decisions you make about promotion and sharing your ShopTab products.

Facebook stores that promote their products are more likely to get sales, and the performance dashboard can show you how much impact those promotions actually have.

To access your performance dashboard, login to your ShopTab account and then click on the “Performance” tab.

Note: The performance tab will only appear for customers who are using the Facebook integrated cart.

Facebook store performance

The performance page measures four types of activity.

1. Daily page views – the total number of pages that are viewed in your Facebook store in 24 hours

2. Buy clicks – the total number of times your Facebook fans add an item to their cart

3. Social activity – combination of shares, likes, pins and tweets

4. Promotions – the number of products you’ve promoted from your store

Facebook shop activity

Each type of activity can give you clues about how to get the most out of your Facebook store. Let’s dive into each type of activity.

Daily page views

Daily page views are the heartbeat of your Facebook store. They allow you to see overall traffic trends and then match those trends to events (external or internal). You may notice that your traffic peaks on certain days of the week or when you post a certain type of item. You may also notice that more items in your store leads to more total page views. If you run a promotion on your Facebook page, you can jump into your performance page and see if that drove potential customers from your wall to your shop.

Buy clicks

While buy clicks are correlated to purchases, they don’t necessary mean the final purchase was made. Buy clicks tell you when people add items to your cart (you’ll want to check PayPal to see more statistics about the final purchase decision). If your page views are high but your buy clicks are low, you may want to ask yourself why. Are you products priced too high? Are your potential customers hesitant to buy because they don’t have enough information about what you’re selling? Try to gather some feedback from your fans if you find that page views are high and your buy clicks are low (or nonexistent).

Social activity

Social activity is a great supplement to the other activity on your performance dashboard. If people are truly excited about your products, they are more likely to share, pin, or tweet about them. A high volume of share activity indicates that your customers are bringing you more potential customers. Try to track down the source of the share and then respond by “favoriting” the tweet, “liking” the post, or commenting (with your Facebook shop smart link).

Promotions are key if you want to drive social activity, page views, and buy clicks to your store. This may be the most crucial part of managing your shop. You should continuously experiment with different social marketing techniques to see what promotions are effective. We’ve covered some of the strategies in other ShopTab blog posts. Here is some reading to get you started.

After opening a Facebook store in Mexico, Audiofilia was able to sell their products to fans all over the world. A Facebook store was an inexpensive way to reach the fans that Audiofilia already had, and they didn’t have to spend extra money on advertising to reach them.

Audiofilia Facebook shop

Building a Facebook shop allowed Audiofilia to turn existing fans into buyers. Their fans can now buy products directly via a Facebook store link under their cover photo or via a mobile phone.

Audiofilia Facebook shop

The total number of Facebook users in Mexico has been growing by millions of people annually. The following graph compiled by Statista shows the number of Facebook users in Mexico from 2012 to 2013 with projections until 2018. In 2016, the number of Facebook users in Mexico is expected to reach 55.3 million.

As more and more people join Facebook in Mexico, online sellers will have to find new ways to reach their customers through social selling. Audiofilia capitalized on this growth by launching a store that lives entirely inside of Facebook. With Facebook shop language support and currency options they were able to easily translate the text to Spanish and use the Mexican $ for currency.

Category support allows Audiofilia’s customers to easily browse products and find specific items. Customer’s can also search for items based on price, or search for an item by it’s name in the search bar.

How to Collect Sales Tax in Your Facebook Shop

Calculating sales tax can be confusing, especially when you are selling online. It’s difficult to determine what to charge, and it can be tough to navigate all of the different sales tax laws that might affect your final selling price.

Tax requirements change according to what country, state, region, or city you are in, so before you start to add sales tax amounts on products in your Facebook store, it’s important to know what your laws might affect your tax rate.

When you’ve determined what sales tax rate is required, you can use the steps outlined below to add the sales tax into your Facebook shop.

Note: This guide is designed for ShopTab customers using our integrated cart, and your PayPal setup might look different depending on what country you live in.

1. Login to PayPal and click Tools in the top navigation menu

2. Select the “Sales Tax Setup” icon

3. Choose if you want to set up a domestic sales tax or an international sales tax.

In this example, we’ll select a domestic sales tax.

4. Select what states/regions you want the sales tax to apply in and add your tax rate

For instance, if you are selling to anyone in the US, you’ll want to select “All States and Territories”, otherwise the sales tax will only be applied to the customers from the individual state that you select.

You can also choose to apply your tax rate to the shipping cost or leave the shipping cost out of the sales tax calculation.

5. You’ll see the tax rate appear below your tax rates page

You can then add additional tax rates with different rules, or save and logout of PayPal.

Sales_Tax_-_PayPal 2

When your buyers purchase something using your Facebook shop’s integrated cart, the sales tax will automatically be pulled from this page and added to the total price of the item. The percentage is automatically calculated, and if you ever want to change the tax rate you can login to PayPal and edit easily.

Now that you have your taxes set up, you might want to set up your Facebook store shipping, or read our post about how to determine your Facebook store shipping costs.

Send us an email at support@shoptab.net if you have any questions about setting up taxes (or shipping) in your shop. We’re here to help!

The Value of Facebook Shop “Smart Links” for Mobile

Mobile, mobile, mobile.

We’ve heard time and time again that mobile is the future of social selling. We can now safely say that mobile isn’t the future of social selling. It’s happening now.

As of April 15, 2015, Facebook has 526 million monthly active mobile-only users. That’s staggering.

65% of Facebook videos are viewed on mobile devices, and Facebook is now responsible for 60% of all mobile social sharing. Here’s a great infographic from Venture Beat that puts the growth into perspective.

mobile only users

The rise of mobile isn’t just a trend, and it hasn’t reached its peak. More and more Facebook users will access the platform through their phones, and the rise in mobile has direct implications on how marketers use Facebook to sell goods and services.

Facebook app mobile URL limitation

If you’re a Facebook marketer, you know that Facebook is constantly changing and updating it’s platform to provide the best content to its users. Facebook store owners have to find the best ways to reach their users on multiple platforms, but sometimes Facebook restrictions and updates make it difficult to keep up.

One limitation we found when building our Facebook shop app, was the inability to copy & paste the URL from a Facebook app page and then open it on a mobile device. For instance, if you wanted to share a Facebook app URL on Twitter, your mobile users wouldn’t be able to click the link and open the page unless they were on a desktop.

Fortunately, we were able to create a solution.

Using Facebook shop ”smart links”

When selling on Facebook, marketers needed a way to share their Facebook store URL with users on all devices. They wanted to be able to promote their store and allow their customers to purchase items via mobile phones.

At ShopTab, we created something called a “smart link” that automatically detects what device the URL is opened on and then creates a shopping experience that is best for that device.

By using smart links, Facebook store owners can now share their store URL knowing that their shop will look great. When the Facebook store is opened on a mobile phone, customers get a fully-mobile experience.

mobile facebook store

How to access your smart links

There are two ways you can access your Facebook store smart links.

We’ve created a “Store URL” link that you can copy and past from your Settings/My Products page after logging into your ShopTab account. You can also access the URL to a specific product, by copying and pasting any of the “Product URL“s on the Settings/My Products page.
